According to Economic Information Daily, relevant U.S. authorities have recently launched intensive investigations into the current state of intellectual property infringement in China. China's emerging industries have become key subjects of the survey.

According to a May 27 announcement from China's Ministry of Commerce, the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) recently released a report on China's intellectual property infringement and policies to promote local innovation (May 2011) (hereinafter referred to as the "IP Report"). The report covers U SITC's detailed findings on the current state of intellectual property infringement in China, as well as the impact of China's IP infringement and policies promoting local innovation on the U.S. economy. Just half a year ago, the USITC released its first report on intellectual property infringement in China.

The Intellectual Property Report states that USITC surveyed 5,051 knowledge-intensive companies operating in China, accounting for 16.3% of the total U.S. economy. The report states that in 2009, U.S. companies suffered losses of $48.2 billion due to intellectual property infringement in China. Furthermore, data analysis and simulation results show that if China strengthens intellectual property protection, U.S. exports to China and related sales will increase by $107 billion and create about 923,000 new jobs for these American companies.

In this intellectual property report, China's local innovation policies are listed as a key focus of investigation. The report focuses on analyzing cases in China's emerging industries, including wind energy, telecommunications equipment (mobile phones), software, automotive, civil aircraft and their components. Many surveyed American companies reported that they suffered substantial losses in 2009 due to China's innovation policies.

The Intellectual Property Report states, "China's rapid development over the past 30 years has presented both opportunities and challenges for American companies." China's intellectual property infringement and policies promoting domestic innovation have diminished the competitive position of U.S. companies in China. ”

Data shows that since 2006, cases of Chinese companies facing the U.S. Section 337 investigation have increased significantly. From 2006 to 2010, there were 56 cases of Chinese companies being investigated by the U.S. 337, with the number of cases exceeding the total of the previous 20 years combined. In 2010, the U.S. launched 56 337 investigations, of which 18 involved China, accounting for nearly 30%, ranking first.
